Bringing a Storage Hall Back to Life

When a powerful downburst struck the Jura region in July 2023, it left a trail of destruction across Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds. Among the severely damaged buildings was a large storage hall, whose structural integrity had been compromised within minutes. Restoring the facility quickly was critical to the client’s operations.

Working closely with renowned Neuchâtel architect Pierre Studer, Häring developed an efficient and practical reconstruction concept. Engineering, manufacturing and on-site assembly teams coordinated seamlessly to accelerate the rebuilding process. More than 3,200 m² of roof elements were prefabricated and installed, supported by impressive timber trusses spanning 45 metres, each weighing approximately 6 tonnes.

The production of wall and roof elements progressed in parallel with site operations, requiring precise planning and highly flexible logistics. Despite challenging weather conditions and an unusually early onset of winter, the ambitious construction schedule was met as planned.

This project highlights how advanced timber engineering, industrial prefabrication and an experienced team can transform a storm-damaged structure into a fully operational facility within just a few weeks – delivering speed, reliability and quality when it matters most.
