Current progress of environment ministry building in Basel

Construction work on the AUE in Basel is progressing rapidly. Assembly of the floors started at the end of March 2020. During erection, the supports of the skeleton were placed first, then the main and secondary beams were installed between the supports and the ceiling elements were inserted. By mid-September, the supporting structure with all eight storeys was completed and we were able to start installing the facade elements. Subsequently, the corner elements prefabricated in our factory were installed. Further finishing work on the interior, such as acoustic cladding and concrete cosmetics, will take place at the beginning of next year.

About the project: In 2021, the Office for the Environment and Energy of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (AUE) will move into the new eight-storey building on Spiegelgasse. The supporting structure of the new building consists of the skeleton in wood, the ceiling panels in wood-concrete hybrid construction and the bracings in steel (steel crossings), which serve to brace the building. Häring implemented the load-bearing structure in wood, the ceilings in wood-concrete hybrid construction and facade elements with CCF windows. The assembly was carried out storey by storey. The ceilings were assembled and filled with superconcrete. Standardised acoustic elements, which are delivered to the construction site in transportable sizes, are subsequently mounted under the wood-concrete composite beams. They serve to absorb sound and improve the room acoustics in the offices. The entire construction is material-saving and at the same time has a good heat storage capacity; in summer it supports the night cooling of the building. The wood-concrete composite construction thus contributes significantly to meeting the Minergie-A-ECO requirements.
