Häring is committed to sustainable wood technology in Bhutan
On January 20, 2025, a historic event took place as part of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Klosters-Davos: The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Singularity Academy, SwissCham Asia and the Kingdom of Bhutan.
This landmark partnership aims to promote education, renewable energy and resource management in Bhutan, combining sustainable growth with the preservation of cultural identity.
The event was attended by high-ranking personalities, including:
- His Excellency Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan
- Ambassador Tenzin Wangchuck
- Prof. Dr. Ying Zhang, President of the Singularity Academy
- Dr. Urs Lustenberger, President of SwissCham Asia
- Business representatives such as Roger Kuratle (CEO Kuratle Group), Christoph Häring (Chairman Häring Group) and David Häring (Managing Director Häring Timber Technology AG)
The Prime Minister emphasized Bhutan's investment opportunities in the areas of hydrogen energy, sustainable timber production and education in the hospitality industry. The kingdom is thus demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Häring: A key partner in wood technology
Häring has been actively involved in promoting wood technology in Bhutan since 2012. Through a pilot project in cooperation with the National Resource Division Co. Ltd., we were able to make decisive contributions to the further development of the wood value chain. Bhutan is now striving to achieve Swiss quality standards and establish itself as a globally recognized supplier of wood products - both for its own national projects and for the international market.
This partnership is based on a shared vision: the sustainable use of wood as a renewable resource. Bhutan and Switzerland, two small nations with different cultural backgrounds, are combining their strengths to learn from each other and create added value together.
A look into the future
The signing of the MoU marks the beginning of a promising collaboration that not only promotes Bhutan's sustainable development, but also emphasizes the global importance of wood as an environmentally friendly resource. For Häring, this means continuing to drive innovation and strengthen international partnerships. Together, we are shaping a sustainable future for Bhutan and the world.
