The 8-storey hybrid building is the first timber building of this size in Basel. The new building is based on a historically proven construction method that was further developed for this project. The skeleton construction with columns and beams was made of wood in visible quality and the ceilings were concreted out afterwards. A total of 220 m³ of spruce wood from IWB forests was used; coordinated by Häring from clearing to processing to delivery to the construction site. Due to its heat storage capacity, the construction supports night-time cooling in summer. The façade elements with CCF windows were manufactured in modules at the factory in Eiken and installed just in time on site. Great attention was paid to the logistics due to the local conditions in the confined public space.
