Pop up event Arena for a Tree

The Arena for a Tree, made of spruce wood, has already been shown in Basel and Zurich as a walk-in art intervention by Klaus Littman as part of an exhibition by the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger. The exhibit, which is eight metres high and twelve metres in diameter, offers seating for 50 people. The arena was realised as a pop-up event and can be erected within just one day. The prefabrication and pre-assembly of the 28 arched trusses for the 14 segments took place at Roth Burgdorf AG and Häring AG's factory.

The arena for a tree focuses on nature. In plan, the arena looks like a cut through a tree trunk. The irregular shape and structure of the individual slats that form the outer mesh is modelled on the appearance of a tree. Together with the seating that runs inside the shell, the slats symbolically depict the annual rings - the life span of a tree.
